I looked for a chiropractor in the Yellow Pages because I had pain on my left side in the rib area and I knew that this was not something that my regular doctor could treat. It had started when looking under a bed for my cat as a sudden, acute pain that persisted for a week. I had never been to a chiropractor but knew that both my mother and brother had been helped by chiropractors many years ago.
The exam revealed several conditions that I did not know I had, but which made sense since it followed family history and other conditions from my childhood. I just did not know that some of these could be modified.
Once the treatments began I regained some flexibility that I had thought was lost to age. I can now turn my head much easier and look behind for driving, etc. I have also regained better sense of balance and feel looser when walking. My walking had become restricted due to arthritis in the knees and a torn meniscus but I find that my better balance is helping in the walking and stamina. I can walk much faster and for longer distances without pain or exhaustion.
I talked to one of my friends about my experience (not knowing that she had been seeing a chiropractor for years) and she said that, "all women over 60 should be seeing a chiropractor." It has definitely made me feel much better and allowed me to become more active again.
